She decides to join the police academy and erase her past. Brilliant and guarded, she excels in training and catches the attention of Sergeant Luis Morales. She forms an unexpected friendship with recruit Rachelle Beckett and is later assigned to veteran Field Training Officer Marcus Mercer III, who teaches her that policing requires compassion, integrity, and trust. As Evelyn works cases involving missing children, domestic violence, mental health crises, and financial abuse, she sees the difference officers can make.
