Four years ago, the fire took everything. At fourteen, Tadhg Lynch is a weapon on the hurling pitch and a terror in the hallways of Tommen College. He wears a cocky grin like armor and wields lethal sarcasm like a shield. With his younger brothers safely tucked away in the luxury of the Kavanagh mansion, Tadhg should be at peace. Instead, he is drowning in a silent, suffocating depression, quietly slipping down the exact same dangerous path of addiction that nearly destroyed his older brother, Joey. He is a boy running on fumes, waiting for the match that will finally set him ablaze. Then came Aisling. Fierce, hotheaded, and burdened by a devastating past, Aisling transfers to Tommen carrying the heavy ghosts of her parents' tragic deaths. Living in a cramped apartment with her older brother and his girlfriend, she protects her fragile, grieving heart behind walls of pure defiance and an explosive temper. She doesn't do friends, she doesn't do pity, and she definitely doesn't do Tadhg Lynch. But when their chaotic worlds collide at the start of Third Year, the masking stops. Aisling sees straight through Tadhg's untouchable swagger, and Tadhg recognizes the hollow, dark ache hidden behind her fiery outbursts. They are mirrors of the same shattered glass, bound by a trauma that threatens to swallow them both whole. In a world determined to break them, can two damaged souls find a way to mend, or will they burn each other to the ground?

Tadhg Lynch was broken. Perhaps too broken for a boy of his age. After living a life of torment, abuse, and emotional and physical turmoil, his world had tilted on its axis when his father, Teddy Lynch, set their home on Elks Terrace ablaze, murdering both himself and Tadhg's mother, Marie Lynch. After a heroic rescue of him and his little brothers by Johnny Kavanagh, Irish rugby superstar and his sister's boyfriend, he was finally provided with a loving home, parents, and the stability he, and his five siblings, should've recieved from the start. From then on, you could've said that Tadhg had finally begun living a semi-normal life. That's until he met her. Bethany Gibson. The little sister of Gerard "Gibsie" Gibson that would have his ego on a leash, and his heart in her hands. Bethany shouldn't have made it after falling off the edge of a yacht with her father and brother, Joe and Gibsie, following soon after in 1995. At least, that's what the adults had said when they thought she wasn't listening. Her father, who didn't make it out like her, haunted her dreams and thoughts wherever she went. Her father, the man who died trying to save her. The events of the haunting day of her brother's Holy Communion were nothing more than a blur. She was only a baby when everything had went down. But the guilt? The trauma from an event she could barely visualise? It weighed her down and submerged her in a sea that was more formidable than the one she'd almost died in ever could be. However, the monster created when she was a baby was not the only one weighing her down. A monster that was more near, more evil, more invasive, and the one that changed her from the bubbly, loveable girl she once was. The one that's long list of child victims did not stop at her.

Everyone remembers the Lynch fire. Everyone remembers the bodies carried out. But no one remembers the boy left standing in the middle of it all. Tadhg Lynch isn't the golden Lynch boy. He isn't the baby who got shielded from the worst, or the oldest who carved a new life with a family of his own. He's the one in between. The one who saw everything, took the blows meant for his younger brothers, and carried scars no one wanted to look too closely at. Brave. Bold. Mouthy. A joker when he can manage it. And broken enough that nothing ever really sticks. Bethany Gibson is the girl who shouldn't have lived. She was three when the water took her under, when her father gave his life to save hers. She grew up in the shadow of grief, wrapped in the protection of a brother who bled for her in ways she only half understands. Sweet, funny, too kind for her own good-Bethany knows what it is to survive, but not yet what it means to live. When Bethany collides with Tadhg at Tommen, it's fire meeting oxygen-sharp words, sharp looks, a pull neither of them can shake. He's crude, cruel with his jokes, too much for anyone to handle. She's soft where he's jagged, sunshine where he's ash. He calls her Barbie. She calls him an arsehole. And somewhere between the laughs and the fights, they start to see the cracks in each other. But fixing what's shattered isn't simple. Not when trauma festers. Not when grief never loosens its grip. Not when love means putting your hands into the fire all over again. Funny. Raw. Heartbreaking. Fixing 9 is a story about the girl who wouldn't stop caring, the boy who didn't know how to be cared for, and the brutal, beautiful mess of trying to save each other when the world already tried to burn or drown you alive.
