The Worden Papers is a contemporary reimagining of Jan Potocki's nineteenth-century novel The Manuscript Found in Saragossa. Like its predecessor, it follows a traveller whose journey gradually unfolds into a labyrinth of stories, where genealogy, politics, history, religion, erotic desire and the occult become impossible to separate. My aim is to preserve as much of Potocki's spirit as possible while bringing his world into the twenty-first century. Readers unfamiliar with the original can enjoy the novel on its own. Those curious about Potocki's remarkable work may wish to begin with Wojciech Jerzy Has's magnificent 1965 film, The Saragossa Manuscript.
