Life was just a huge nightmare for Ife and things just seemed to go from bad to worse for her. She never caught a break. She didn't think she did anything to deserve such a life but then again, even if she didn't know what it was, God knows all. The quickest escape would have been suicide. But suicide wasn't the bravest. It was cowardly. But she didn't even have the courage to try. When she gets a chance to meet the Angel of Death as she'd been wishing, it doesn't quite go as planned. But that's ok. Because things do not always work out how we want them to. *** I created a challenge for myself, or a proposal where you send me a word or a phrase or a sentence. I wanted to challenge myself to write a short story out of whatever word, phrase or sentence you sent me. I wrote this book as an entry for the 'Love in the Time of Tragedy' Contest hosted by Romance and Challenge Corner "I am definitely going to die." I thought to myself as I hid. It wasn't like anyone would miss me. But that really was the least of my worries. What? You thought my impending death would be the major cause of my worry? Well, it sort of was... but that wasn't the major reason. Point is... Wait. Let's back up a bit, you'll understand better that way. For some people, love was easy as fall in love, get married, have kids. Unfortunately for me, my case was definitely going to be different... And there was nothing I could do about it. Basically the musings and rantings of two teenagers. The boy being a scientist, making majority of his rantings fact based. The girl being an avid reader, dabbling in many random fields...anything from mythology, to history, to even religion and IT. She's your person...It's only meant to make you wonder and maybe, laugh a little. If you don't like it, it's ok. Maybe it's just not for you. Nora and Kerran had been best friends, until one day, seven years ago, he decided to simply up and leave, never turning back. He never even told Nora goodbye. 7 years after Kerran left, Nora had joined the army and was now second in command. She got the highest rank after the queen, and became a protector of the royals. She was appointed the queen's royal guard and commander of her majesty's army. Highest honors. Her life finally had a purpose. Or so she thought. When a mysterious woman, (whose dramatic entrance into the city includes wrecking havoc on the city) sashays in, claiming to be the queen's long lost sister, and doesn't only come for the throne but also comes with Kerran by her side, Nora's world comes crashing with a bang and 'unimportant' and 'forgotten' emotions threaten to rise again. With the revelation of the truth, and the exposure of the world as it is, Nora begins to question where Kerran's loyalties really lie. Nora has to decide, which is more important, protecting her heart from Kerran or protecting the throne from Kerran and the queen's sister. But were those really her only two options? I rated this book mature because of the mentions of violence in it.
