After escaping the tower in the forest glen, Rapunzel spends the night in a clearing while on her journey to fulfill her dream of seeing the Floating Lanterns, but later decides to postpone it to help Pocahontas, a runaway slave she healed. When Isabel meets a boy visiting Avalor who's an inventor and scientist just like her, she thinks she has finally found someone who understands her the way people don't. However, when it is revealed that the boy, named Varian, Isa must listen to her heart and to discover what she must do.

Taking place about a year after The Princess and The Alchemist, Varian and Isabel reunite at the Exposition of Young Sciences. While both are happy to see each other, they both have to compromise against each other, along with 3 other young inventors, in the Exposition to see who will be granted as the best scientist in the entire realm.
