Mira is Grace Augustine's daughter, born on Pandora to an unknown father, a Na'vi language scientist who died before her birth. Raised by Grace, she receives an avatar body and, at 16 (2147), joins the Na'vi school, befriending Sylwanin and Neytiri while initially facing Tsu'tey's distrust. As they grow closer, Tsu'tey struggles between duty and love, until his trust shatters when the shooting happens. He blames Grace and Mira for Sylwanin's death. A few years have passed since then, and Jake arrives. Although Mira Augustine, now 23, knows more about Na'vi culture than Jake, having grown up studying at Grace's school, she ends up being chased through the woods by a thanator and gets separated from him. This is when she encounters Tsu'tey, and he needs to teach her to See.... Tsu'tey is a year older than Mira.
