I was curious about what happened during that time, before Ilya and Shane returned to the ice as a married couple and star players for the Ottawa Centaurs. So, I wrote it the way I think it would go.

Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander are finally getting to live the life that they have dreamed of for so long. They are out and very much in love with each other, they are finally living together and not always feeling like they are on borrowed time, and they are playing together for the Ottawa Centaurs and looking like they're on their way to winning a Stanley Cup. That is until it all comes unravelled because of one night. Can the two men find their way back to each other? Or when all is said and done, and after everything they've been through, is it just too much to ask?

Hayden wasn't exactly sure how to define his relationship with Ilya Rozanov. His best friend's husband was too simple. The Captain of a rival hockey team was too antagonistic. His kid's uncle was too familiar. Sometimes Hayden missed the good old days when he could just hate the man in a straightforward non-confusing way. "Hayden, great pass in the game last night," Rozanov said, still covered in kids and looking right at Hayden with a smile like he actually meant it! Rozanov was just nice to Hayden and all of a sudden he wanted to know why.

In the year 2030, legendary hockey rivals Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander face off for the final time. Ilya is retiring after a twenty-year career, and the two are playing their last Division Final game against each other. or What if the FanMail video leak hadn't happened? What if Shane and Ilya had gone ahead with their plan to get married, but instead of revealing their relationship, they kept it private until they retired? People would have thought they were just close friends who loved to hang out together. That Yuna and David Hollander just treated Ilya as their son as well. --- I got the inspiration to write this after seeing Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin's final face-off in what could be their last game on the ice. It made me think about what Ilya and Shane might be like if they choose to keep their relationship private and retire on their own terms.
