When Helena finds a phone on the night train, she decides to text the first number in the list of contacts in order to figure out who it belongs to. ***** Helena Santos hasn't had the easiest life. At twenty-one, she's the legal guardian of her teenage sister, in the final year of her nursing degree, and working night shifts at her small-town's local bar. And things get a lot more complicated when she finds a phone on the train home and decides to text the first number in the list of contacts, in hopes of tracking down its owner. That contact? Adam Bauer; the charismatic, sweet, and refreshingly honest older brother of the person who lost their phone. As the two continue talking, they can't ignore the chemistry and growing feelings between them, but life is never that simple. To make things work, Helena and Adam need to juggle a troubled sister, a meddlesome ex-boyfriend, and one fat lawsuit - all intent on keeping them apart. Irene spends her days among the living, trying to understand life. It is a rule of hers to never watch over one person for too long, especially not those who are on the verge of joining her, but Nolan seems to be an exception. Nolan wasn't intending on skipping out on his own high school graduation, contrary to his Biology teacher's beliefs. He had so many plans left for his life: go to college, graduate, get married, have a family, and so much more, but the tumor that formed in his brain had a different plan in mind, a plan that made all of what Nolan wanted for his life impossible. Nolan's dying- he knows it, the doctors know it, and most of all, Irene knows it. And the scary part is that after a while, death starts sounding like a better option than continuing to fight. Irene continues to silently cheer him on. But her cheering is half-hearted at times. Because when the boy you think you're falling in love with is dying, and you're already dead, it's hard to see his upcoming death as a bad thing.

Book Three: Ryan Tedder is the face of the newly-formed rebellion, but he thinks he's only half the man for the job. Although he holds a deep rage for President Carter, he doesn't think he's fit to lead the one rebellion that will last. Yet his anger is justified - not only does this dictatorship hold a terrifying reign over the nation, but it's filled to the brim with lies. For instance, there is no war between the United Kingdom and the United States. All the horrors the U.S. had unleashed were not because of a war, but merely gain for a power-hungry tyrant. Yet with the help of a group of trained and combat-ready rebels called "The Green," led by tough and tactical genius Daryl Conley, Ryan holds hope that he will, at last, be able to live his life free again. With Daryl and his group's help, Ryan, his bandmates, and others close to him must find ways to bring the government down, all while they're labeled public enemies and fugitives. On top of being committed for treason, Ryan must continue to find a way to save Ramona from the waves of her returned depression before they finally drown her. There's no doubt he's got a lot on his plate, but he may be the only one who can lead the nation back to independence - and being only half a man isn't going to cut it. © 2017 by Verona Rohellec.
