On the first day of 8th grade Jack Barakat notices the new kid, soon to be known as no other than Alex Gaskarth. By just one glance at him from the crowded school hallway, Jack has come to the conclusion that he hates him already. Alex just moved to Baltimore and he already has all the popular kids wrapped around his little finger. How he managed to climb to the top of the popularity list is beyond Jack's knowing. All Jack know's is that he can't wait to be far away from the school, from the popular kids, and farther away from Alex as possible. But what happens when a thought gets planted in Jack's lonely mind? When Jack starts to question things, question himself even, things take an unexpected turn. Everyone wants a genuine love story, but often can't find it. Alex and Jack struck gold, and found true love within each other, and their band. After a surprise marriage proposal, things start tumbling down a long winded hill for them.

Jack and Alex used to be best friends until Jack came out of the closet. Jack is now a loner while Alex became popular. When Alex starts trying to get close to Jack again will something in their relationship change?

Alex is a troublemaker, yet he doesn't want to be. It's just that when people get too close, or too personal for his comfort, he snaps. Events of his past have left him afraid of almost any physical contact, and other people in general. He's trying to mend his broken life, and is offered a fresh start after being expelled from his last school. Jack, on the other hand, is depressed. He feels worthless, like a waste of life and space, and has just about the lowest self-esteem possible. He's searching for the affection and comfort he so desperately needs. The meet at a bus stop one day, but are torn apart when Alex has to suddenly run off, without even giving the boys a chance to exchange names. Half a year later, the pair is reunited, when Jack is assigned to be Alex's tour guide on his first day at Dulaney High. Their feelings for one another quickly grow, though they're confused about where, exactly, the relationship is headed. Can the two boys help each other? Are they enough?
