Sophia has sacrificed everything for her younger sister, Lucy. She has removed them from the only home they ever knew, taken on the care of Lucy's illegitimate son, George, and even assumed the role of a widow and mother in order to erase all hint of scandal from the boy's birth. But rumor continues to follow them like the darkest of clouds, and Sophia must adapt to her new existence as a false widow with no prospects beyond the doors of her small cottage. Lord Haughton - "Finn" to those close to him - will stop at nothing to prevent the slightest whiff of disgrace from tainting his family's name. When he learns of his younger brother's latest indiscretion-one that leaves a bastard child in his wake-Haughton rushes across the country to offer the boy's mother a comfortable living in exchange for her silence about the child's true parentage. But he arrives only to have his generous offer thrown back in his face by Sophia Brixton, a sharp-tongued and sharper-witted woman who proceeds to toss him out of her house. But just because he is banished from her home does not mean he is so easily banished from her life.

It's been two years since he has gone to study abroad. I still remember the day I came to live in this house after my parent's death. I still remember the day when he suddenly came into my room. I was looking at him with shocked eyes because of his actions. He locked the door and started coming in my direction. I knew that I was in danger but I can't move my body. Bloody hell, my body was held by the cold gaze of his blue sea-colored eyes. With long steps, he was coming towards me, and in a flash of seconds, he was in front of me. He grabbed my hair making me look into his eyes, my eyes were close afraid of meeting his cold star but the next word from his mouth made my eyes short open. "Who was that man Jane with whom you were laughing and talking answer me. Who was he," he shouted in anger. I took in his appearance his jaw was clenched and his eyes were burning in anger. H-e-he saw me with him. I knew I was in danger. Now, what should I do was the big question for me. Warm tears filled my eyes ready to slip out from the corner of my eyes by remembering that day. The more memory of that day still you heard it right. First place in The Scribblers Award 2020 for best novel

Watty's Longlist 2018! --- As the owner of a gaming hell, Lionel Chadwick lived on the edges of London's Society, not fully accepted yet not entirely shunned due to the sheer amount of wealth he owned. With a plethora of females around him at his gaming hell, the Museum of Money, no one ever questioned why he never was permanently attached. Charlotte Rothesay, youngest sister to the Duke of Avondale, has watched Lionel Chadwick grow up her whole life, and she could never imagine herself with anyone else. After having her heart broken time and time again as Lionel caroused, played and switched mistresses, along with how he intentionally put distance between them, Charlie has had enough, and was setting her sights elsewhere. While she was a strong and very wilful girl, she had her limits, and Charlie has had enough of setting her sights on someone who would never come to her. But when years go by and they still remained on the peripherals of each other's life, maybe Fate has had enough of their tiptoeing around each other. One week together from an accidental time together, and maybe their life may take an interesting turn.
