When the queen of Mirkwood unexpectedly dies Thanduil is left without a wife, but more importantly his son is left without a mother. The king knows he cannot fill the ruins left by a dead mother so he appoints another woman to take her place, to look after his son when he cannot, and to give him the warmth he no longer feels himself. Inladris is a highborn elf who did not expect this responsibility to be thrust upon her, but she accepts it with aplomb and does her best to not only raise a prince but to give the king a friend she suspects he doesn't realize he needs. This is the story of their peculiar friendship through grief, and how two opposites may or may not successfully raise a child. *This is not a romance.

When her father is approached by Thorin Oakenshield to accompany him on a quest, Laelia can't help but be frightened. Her father is frail and injured, the burns from Smaug never fully healed when they were attacked in Erebor 60 years ago. She takes his place on the quest, although Thorin thinks she's too young and irritating as she constantly defies him during their long journey. But he feels something for her even though he's not exactly sure what it is. Bilbo Baggins was saddened when Thorin Oakenshield --his only true love-- died during the battle. When Bilbo returns to Bag End he starts to contemplate his life with Thorin thus far and is saddened that they will never be able to experience these shared moments together again. He then reads something that will change his life and the life of the people he loves most.

King Thranduil has everything at his feet. His son, Legolas, a kingdom and a crown with all of its treasures, but what he doesn't have is a companion to share his life with. When Laer steps into his kingdom he finds himself curious about her, what makes her smile, what makes her tick, and most of all, what does this average elf think of the king of Mirkwood? I do not own any of the characters besides Laer and Rovain, everything else goes happily to Tolkien. ** Extremely Slow Updates ** Due to complaints I feel the need to write this... it clearly says slow updates above. It doesn't say completed in the details either. This is an unfinished story. There are slow updates. I have an extremely busy schedule with my full time job, my full time in college and the work load I receive from college and I go through extremely rough patches with my depression to where I do nothing. I have no time to write and in the time that I do, I don't want to force myself to write a chapter because it won't come out as nicely as I'd want it. I understand the frustration of not being able to read a finished story because that frustrates me too, but please be courteous enough to ask why I don't update or be even nice about it. I worry about enough and having readers be angry with me, really upsets me and doesn't really push me to write. If anything, it makes me want to just delete this story all together because I don't know when this will be finished or if it ever will be. Some of you have been extremely supportive for my situation, so thank you for that... again, slow updates and I don't know when this will be finished.

A dragon born is someone who is born with only half of their soul, Kara, a young girl born on the mountain side,a Dragon Born. She is the last dragon born since her parents and village were slaughtered. A dragon born's other half soul resides inside a dragon. Kara's dragon is called Darius. He has gorgeous black scales and breathes purple flames, his eyes are purple as well. A dragon Born is not affected by fire in fact they can control it. Certain Dragon Borns can actually grow their own wings and tail. Sometimes they can even fully chamge into a dragon.
