Phil is a vampire who believes that humans and night creatures should live amongst each other in harmony. Dan is a vampire hunter, part of the clan, and believes that vampires like Phil don't exist.

Dan Howell is a timid boy, who always does as he is told. He was once friends with Phil Lester, the 'bad influence' who soon ditches Dan for the popular group in Year 7. After five years of not talking to each other, they're partnered in a project and Phil's wants to win Dan over just like he has with most of their year. But yet, Dan is determined to find out what Phil is hiding behind his arrogant mask.

Dan Howell is an insomniac....who's scared of the dark. Only a little bit. One late night (or early morning), he decides to venture out and explore London at its quietest. He meets Phil Lester at an all-night coffee shop, and the two quickly become friends. As the friendship continues to grow, Dan has to begin facing his issues, and his feelings for Phil.

Phil starts getting cute, little messages from a secret admirer and gradually feels himself falling more and more in love with the boy. But can you really like someone you've never seen before? And what will happen when Phil finds out the real identity of his admirer?

Dan POV: Four years ago, I was diagnosed with schizophrenia. It's not as bad as a lot of people's, but I sometimes hear things, or see things out of the corner of my eye. I lose touch of reality a lot because of it. Sometimes, I'll have a "Dan Moment," as my lovely mother calls it, for up to four hours, and it's just me, staring off into space, in my own world of hallucination. It's scary, but I've grown used to it, so has my family. But now that I'm 22 years old and living on my own, things are getting pretty hard. I can't hold down a serious job for long, because as soon as I have a bad "moment," they think I have something wrong with me, and they fire me immediately. I currently don't have a job, but I made a fair bit of money about six months back for selling all of my Pokemon cards on eBay; it's gotten me through the last couple of months rent, but I either need a job or someone to help me pay. I guess the latter is better. *****SMUT WARNING*****

Dan is different. He's learned to accept that. Well, as best he can anyway, considering he's never really had much of a choice. It's been this way for as long as he can remember, the constant runaround process of trying to feel normal. His life is built around it, trying to trick both himself and everyone he interacts with into seeing him as your average person. The isolation as he desperately tries to keep others from finding out, the bitterness that wells up inside of him each and every time he's reminded that he'll never be like everyone else, the fear that nothing will ever change. He's fated to be this way forever; a misfit from society. Isolation can only go so far though, so when he's struggling to make ends meet and he's faced with the option of looking into a serious job or taking on a roommate, he opts for what seems like the easier option at the time. It doesn't seem so easy ten failed roommates into the process, or when he sits down at a table to meet with prospect number eleven and ends up with a coffee spilled all over his lap. Potential roommate number eleven, Phil, turns out to be an insufferable optimistic ball of sunshine that Dan wants nothing to do with. His options are running out though, as are the savings he's been using to pay his rent, so he finds himself begrudgingly agreeing to let the other man move in. Neither of them have any way of knowing just what they've gotten themselves into as they shake on the matter, but time will tell.
