It all started like many things start, slow and quiet. And then they came, and everything changed. She had tried to run, but even at the gates of freedom June had fallen. Now she was property, now she was nothing more than a pet. Like a cow that was kept until it was time for slaughter. She had to survive, if not for her sister, at least to see the daylight once more before her inevitable doom. She would be free, and she would die free.
