Jeanne never thought much of war, as it wasn't her place. She was used to living the life of a farm hand, stitching clothing for her brothers and herself, and cooking with her mother, Esme. When Jean, her older brother, left to train to join Napoleon's army, things started to change drastically. Henri, Jeanne's other brother, lost his leg in a farming accident and the cost of the surgery was so much that they couldn't buy him a prosthetic, nor could he make himself one. Jean stopped writing and his family couldn't help but think that he was dead, and soon Henri falls ill from an infection. Esme doesn't want Jeanne to die on a farm, so she sends her to work for the Bertrand's, a bourgeoisie family. Jeanne only agrees so she can support her family, but she didn't expect to find much more than a job.

The Jazz Age was here and in full swing. A gradual gain of confidence after the Great War, a redesigning of everything that was deemed in need of revival and indeed some things that were better left as they were. It was, to put it indelicately, as though someone had released a pack of wild animals, who, once they had gained a grip on freedom, simply refused to look back. As time went on though, it became clearer that perhaps it was closer to a swarm of locusts, ravaging everything in their path.

Melody Ainsworth is the daughter of a high nobleman. Since she was small, Hector, the prince of the kingdom, had been her closest (if not her most sensitive) friend. And then the inevitable happened. They, like all of us, grew up. While Prince Hector is away, dispatched to the outer realms with the noble knights; Melody faces her own turmoil. Will they come together again and live happily ever after? (A/N: I didn't cast anyone to play Melody, because I frankly can't think of a younger actress who impresses me enough. I want my dream cast for this story, and when I find my favorite actress, I'll cast her. I also didn't cast actors to play the characters as children.)

(Trailer available in the external link.) A twisted fairytale: How far would you go to get your perfect fairytale ending? The prince had managed to find the strange, ethereally beautiful girl who'd fled from that fateful Coronation Ball, with only a single glass slipper left behind as a clue. But what did Cinderella do after she got her Happily Ever-After? She did get it, didn't she? Rae Wyman dreams of a girl, every night. She haunts him with her mellifluous voice, her mesmerizing eyes and her small, arcane smiles, making him yearn for her even though he's never seen her before in his life. Yet there's a strange feeling blossoming inside him every day, a feeling which he can't describe, growing so wild and restless that he doesn't know where his sanity went. Why does it feel like... ...she'd known his weakest point? And had used it to destroy him to a million little pieces? "If I try to touch her, And I bleed, I bleed, And I breathe, I breathe no more." (Evanescence, Breathe No More.) Note: This story is NOT horror and certainly NOT Gothic...well, maybe a little Gothic. :) [ His Evil Cinderella Copyright © Saleha Kamran Afzal 2015] ........................................................................................................................... <Please don't be a silent reader. Prophecies are troublesome, tiresome, bothersome, wearisome, irksome... one would get the idea after being confined by it since the time they were even thought of being created. This story follows a few who are tied by said irritating prophecies - and how those prophecies are determined to make themselves come true, however the 'prophecees' may try to escape. Most of the time they try to flee unknowingly - those who do try consciously are already too late. ---- Edit (12/10/2012): hi! This is my first time writing an official story story, not an essay story, so I am sorry for any mistakes! Please help me by commenting and giving advice or your thoughts on the chapters! I hope to improve my writing and maybe, just maybe, fulfill my dream of publishing my own book one day ^^ arigatou. BTW: this story contains quite a wide range of, well, things - including ambiguous (as of now) magic, wings, thieves, normal(?) teenagers, singapore, lamp posts. fox-demons, ........ (list will grow as more of the story is revealed. :) )

Plan A might have been just as dangerous as the police insisted it was safe. It involved being locked away, out of sight and communication, and didn't solve the problem that Fran's stalkers seemed to have access to police files and data. Plan B the police didn't know about, and while the stalkers were at least temporarily out of the picture, it posed other problems. The police are now searching for her. Her stalkers are still looking for her. Her roommate doesn't know she's not a boy and a depressed teen movie star wants to be her friend. Being found out would blow her safety. Not to mention that the country thinks she might just be the victim -- or the cause -- of a spate of murders in the surrounding towns. Going to Darkwood private school was a risk, but not as risky as Plan A. The worry of trying to keep herself hidden from her schoolmates might become her main problem, but it still doesn't answer the most worrying question of all: just who were those stalkers, and what did they want? -- (Just so you all know, I've entered this book for the Hotkey Young Writers Prize. It would mean the world to me if you could support Plan B by voting for the first chapter (only votes on the first chapter count) before September 13th and then encouraging as many people as possible to read and vote as well. Thank you all so much!)
