Vous savez, il y a quelques années, une épidémie a affecté tout le pays. Tous les Canis Lupus, ou pour faire simple, les loups, ont développé un comportement étrange, agressif. Malheureusement pour nous, nous étions dans une région parsemée de forêt dense, là où il y avait la plus grande réserve de loup gris au monde. À notre plus grande surprise, les loups n'attaquaient que quand la température passait sous les 10°C. Les scientifiques n'avaient toujours pas trouvé d'explication logique. Pourquoi rester, me direz-vous ? Quand tout ce qu'on connaît se trouve ici, peu de personnes pensent à partir. Vous vous demandez probablement pourquoi moi, Newton Caldwell, ne quitte pas cet enfer, tandis que je n'ai ni famille, ni ami? J'aimerais bien vous dire que j'adore mon pays, mon village. Mais pourtant, rien ne me retient vraiment ici. Je reste lamentablement ici, car les frontières sont ma seule sécurité dans ce monde de brute. J'ai peur, voilà tout. Le monde extérieur me terrorise. Et entre nous, ce n'est pas des loups que j'ai peur, si vous voyez ce que je veux dire.

Il y a 11 ans, notre vie a changé. Le monde n'était plus le même à nos yeux. Certaines histoires que nos parents nous avaient racontées étaient maintenant notre réalité. Il y a 11 ans, nous étions morts. Enfin... C'est ce que nous pensions.
