It gets better towards the end, but by the time of-age characters seemed appropriate to me, this book was long since complete and I was already working on a second draft. For everyone's sake, in this draft, just figure they're 18. (Because istg im this close to offing marley with how much crap I'm still getting over their ages. I was that age when I wrote it. Marcie is an oddity in her village, the daughter of a widower with both village and outsider blood in her veins.
