So when he sees his mum come home dead tired at five in the morning, Wilbur resolves to do whatever it takes to make life easier on her. He learns to clean, and when he's old enough, how to cook. Tragedy strikes again, and his mother comes down with cancer when he's 16. She's gone a year later. Wilbur likes to think that he handled it well.
