Being one of only two out gay students in a sometimes not-so-open-minded high school has presented Jackson Humes with certain challenges. Even though all teenagers' lives are challenging in their own ways, Jackson's takes a complicated turn the day he catches Alex Cole in the guy's locker room posing in front of a mirror wearing nothing but a pair of dingy tighty whities. While the rest of the school worries that the recent mountain lion sightings in the woods might have something to do with the star quarterback's disappearance, Jackson worries that Alex is going to rearrange his face in a manner that will make any attempts at future dating impossible. When an unhinged Alex corners Jackson in the woods, Jackson responds by miraculously breaking the laws of gravity. He soon realizes that his emerging superpower is connected to a dark secret, forcefully suppressed after the long ago deaths of all those involved, including Jackson's own parents. But secrets don't stay buried forever, as Jackson is about to discover.

"Appearances can be deceiving- especially if you're not looking hard enough." This is a story about superheroes. Also, it isn't. I should know. I'm trapped in it. *** Meet Jack. What's the hushed-up secret the Government is keeping about The City- and why is it against a hero? What's up with Jack's history teacher? What exactly is his University hiding? Why is there the occasional unnecessary reference? How sinister are the skeletons lurking in his so-called friends' cupboards? And which one of them is a cold-blooded murderer? Secrets, secrets, everywhere- but the more he unravels, the closer he thinks he is to being free, the more Jack finds himself linked to forces outside his control and events he barely remembers, stuck in a fictional universe where, it would seem, everyone is against him. ___ Highest ranks that I have no idea how this thing received- #2 thriller #3 mystery #4 fourthwall #5 breakstereotypes #8 masks #16 projectsuper #143 humour ...among others. ''You know how they came up with the word Lunatic?'' he asked. I shook my head, feeling like I probably didn't want to know the answer. His lips pulled up on one side in a mischievous, lopsided grin. He stepped closer. ''Because all of the worst monsters come out during a full moon.'' ------ Lou DeVue has known from a young age that she was different and not in the 'I-think-I-was-left-on-my-parents-doorstep-by-a-wizard' kind of way. She can see things. Dark things, usually. The darkest, of which, happens to be about her new neighbors. The five boys hold an energy that Lou's gift can't ignore. An abyss surrounds them and Lou finds herself gazing into it, but what happens when the abyss gazes back? **********************
