Kimi is a prodigy in the world of art. She was born with the gift to paint, but with this talent, she had to sacrifice something: Her voice. For as long as she can remember, she has always been a mute and because of this many people have stayed clear of her, unable to accept the fact that she cannot reply verbally to them. So, she has kept to herself for most of her life, busying herself with painting. For her benefit, her parents get her into Ouran Academy on an Art scholarship. They believe that here she can blossom and perhaps make some friends while she is there.
