Alvhilde is a young woman with a handicap and a different sort of mind who goes on a journey to find what her dreams or rather her nightmares are trying to tell her. She finds a dashing sea captain with many secrets who always tells the truth, but just as she thinks she has fallen for him they have to part ways. She finds a small village on Ireland and an eccentric bookstore owner who decides to help her find out what the dreams are all about. Maybe she is related to a blacksmith with a hidden past, maybe the stories she grew up with are not just stories but a map to find the truth? She finds herself in the middle of a strange world that is also eerily familiar, with responsibilities she feels are not really hers and with a strange but unbreakable bond to a creature she thought was only a character in an old legend. She has to decide if she will stay and explore that bond and the feelings it stirs and the responsibilities that are now hers or if she will try to find that sea captain again and live the life he could offer, or maybe just go home to her odd artist of a grandfather.
Some people want to find out they are special somehow, have special abilities, others just want a good night's, sleep.
