"𝑆𝑢𝑐ℎ 𝑎 𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑡𝑡𝑦 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔" he muttered trailing the dagger over the edge of my jaw and down to my lips. A mistake. "ℎ𝑚𝑚" he grumbled inching closer to get a look at the 'accident' he had just caused. My lip had been cut thus blood trickled down to my chin. His dark onyx eyes watched it with a deep lustful intensity. The pad of his thumb runs over my now slightly sore and bleeding lip. His eyes light up in facination as he deliberately smears the blood across my lips. Already inches apart he slowly edges closer, our lips brushing against one another he glanced down a them. Paused. Pygmalion is a play by George Bernard Shaw, named after a Greek mythological figure. It was first presented on stage to the public in 1913. In ancient Greek mythology, Pygmalion fell in love with one of his sculptures, which then came to life. The general idea of that myth was a popular subject for Victorian era English playwrights, including one of Shaw's influences, W. S. Gilbert. Shaw would also have been familiar with the burlesque version, Galatea, or Pygmalion Reversed. Shaw's play has been adapted numerous times, most notably as the musical 'My Fair Lady' and its film version.

Three Men in a Boat, published in 1889, is a humorous account by English writer- Jerome K. Jerome of a two-week boating holiday on the Thames from Kingston upon Thames to Oxford and back to Kingston. The book was initially intended to be a serious travel guide, with accounts of local history along the route, but the humorous elements took over to the point where the serious and somewhat sentimental passages seem a distraction to the comic novel. One of the most praised things about Three Men in a Boat is how undated it appears to modern readers - the jokes seem fresh and witty even today.

Little Lord Fauntleroy is a novel by the English-American writer Frances Hodgson Burnett, her first children's novel. It was published as a serial in St. Nicholas Magazine from November 1885 to October 1886, then as a book by Scribner's (the publisher of St. Nicholas) in 1886. The illustrations by Reginald B. Birch set fashion trends and the novel set a precedent in copyright law when Burnett won a lawsuit in 1888 against E. V. Seebohm over the rights to theatrical adaptations of the work.
