Nora Gibson is your average seventeen year old, anxiety-ridden teenager who's lived most of her life in the shadows: being told what and what not to do at every huge moment in her life is something that she's never really given much thought to, that is, until a drastic encounter that involves her Mom leaving, Noah Orwell's shirt and sleeping in his room results in something that takes her by surprise: friendship.
The thing is, despite Noah Orwell being too smart and quite possibly the only person who she's always nervous around, Nora Gibson learns that there's a lot more to life than following the choices you've had laid out in front of you before you were born. And when you throw in Noah's girlfriend, Gemma, well, let's just say Nora's going to be learning a lot by the time her Mom comes home.
And let's just say it involves bar fights, sketching at three in the morning -- and the realization that sometimes the only person you can choose is yourself.
