Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare early in his career about two young star-crossed lovers whose deaths ultimately reconcile their feuding families. It was among Shakespeare's most popular plays during his lifetime and along with Hamlet, is one of his most frequently performed plays. Today, the title characters are regarded as archetypal young lovers. Cover done by @zuko_42

+updates every wed/thurs. "Change is not good or bad. Change is change." Bradley Johnson has lived all of his life with standards: standards to look a certain way and standards to act a certain way. When the standards for him start to rise, he'll do anything to achieve them, even if that means killing himself in the process. His life is crumbling, piece by piece, and he's going down with it. Corrie Hughes has been fucked over enough for six people's lifetimes. He accepts that everyone betrays everyone, hell, he will be the first one to admit to screwing someone over. He doesn't think he'll ever change because he's the boy with a past full of mistakes. When his life goes from bad to worse, he doesn't know if he should let his life keep slipping through his fingertips or hold on with all he has. Big empty rooms. Yells echoing across the corridors. The stench of Mother's whisky breath. The sound of the clock in the dining hall where Father never eats, endlessly ticking away the hours without him. Sometimes, there are scars that don't go away. This is not a love story. It's not about magic and hope. This is the story of my life, for the times I had no one but the stars. _____ I clambered onto the roof, even if it was chilly for star watching. I needed a helping hand. “Why?” I asked the sky, the moon, the stars—anyone who would listen. But they didn’t answer. How childish of me, to talk to the stars, I was pathetic wasn’t I? Yet I tried again. “Help?” Nothing. “Talk to me you damn stars!” I shouted. Just then, a shooting star flew by, like a dashing stroke of paint, gone as quickly as it had come. It seemed that this was my chance. I said, “I wish someone would love me, as much as I love the stars.” And to those words, I went back into my room, my cell, and awaited my fate.

When Rena meets Brent, he is a dream come true. He is a real gentleman, funny, caring and even her overly protective father likes him. But then, she discovers a different side of Brent - a violent side that scares her. Promising that this had been a one time slip up, she forgives him. After all, he is the love of her life. She dosn't see the signs -- the controlling, the alienation from her friends and dad, the obsession he has with her. She is like putty in his hands. Over time, she learns about the Cycle of Abuse the hard way and she even tries to break free. But in the end, she only sees one way out and it will likely cost her everything. Best Ranking: #2 in ChickLit Winner of the 1st Corner Booth contest Authors Note: This is a story about domestic violence and can be disturbing at times. Even though the people in this book are fictional, abuse at the hands of a loved one is real. It is something that can happen to any of us, even to teenagers like Rena. Please do not read this book if you find this topic disturbing. It is not designed to upset anyone but to raise awareness.
