"If this isn't happiness, I don't know if I'll ever find it." The flowers decayed and she watched as the memory of him decayed with them. Mia and Daniel were once happy, until he lost his job and then his mother. Turning to alcohol, Daniel became abrasive and closed off, eventually leading to verbal and physical abuse. One Tuesday, a bouquet of liles was left on Mia's porch. Then a letter. Then, Daniel was gone. Standing on the brink, the edge, her roots took hold of the ground and budded without him. She finds independence on her own terms. Until Mia's past begins to catch up to her. "Withering Lonesome" is a story of abuse and independence.
