Princezna ztracená v čase... Prošla světlem, od malinka jí nutily přísahat, že nikdy do té místnosti nevstoupí, bylo tam ukryté zlo... Celých dvaadvacet let neměla důvod, svou přísahu porušit, až do onoho dne. Nechápavě se rozhlížela kolem sebe, stála uprostřed železné džungle, zem byla pomalovaná a kolem se prohánělo cosi, co nedokázala pojmenovat. Vzteklé troubení, pak jakési kvílení a z jedné mnoha plechových krabic, na ni přes sklo hleděl muž.

S arogancí ve tváři, stál opřený o jeden z mnoha sloupů po obvodu tanečního sálu. Těkal očima po okolí, sledoval tančící páry a pak se setkal s pohledem mladší sestry. Věnovala mu něžný úsměv a znovu se zahleděla na jednoho z princů, se kterým tančila. Ples byl pro ni, na její počest a hlavně, aby si vybrala manžela. Sňatek z rozumu, říkal otec... Jemu se to příčilo, jenže s tím nemohl nic dělat. Odmítl jednu odvážnější princeznu, která si přišla pro tanec, a znovu se rozhlédl kolem sebe, a vzápětí ustrnul. Přesně naproti němu, ve dveřích vedoucích do zahrad stála princezna, které si za tu dobu co tu stál nepovšiml. Stejně jako on těkala očima po okolí, s úsměvem odmítla nabídku k tanci, věnovala mu pohled a pak zmizela za závěsem.

Křupání sněhu zesílilo, někdo se k němu blížil, nezdá se mu to. Otevřel oči, nad hlavou měl koruny stromů; jehličnany obsypané sněhem, holé větve listnatých stromů obalené v třpytivé peřině. Vedle něj dopadlo něčí tělo, snažil se zaostřit, hlava jej bolela po pádu, stejně jako tělo, a ržání koně v doslechu nebylo. Osoba se nad něj naklonila, byla to dívka. Drobná, s dlouhými světlými vlasy a rudými šaty. Když promluvila, v uších se mu rozeznělo na tisíc zvonečků. S její pomocí se dostal na nohy, podpírala ho a pomalu odváděla kamsi do neznáma. Netušil, kde je, ani kam ho vede ale příslib tepla ho nutil dívce věřit.
