When the elderly priest shuffled to the door, upon opening it he discovered only a babe swaddled carefully, lying in a basket and staring up at him in silence. The little one was taken in and raised by the few remaining members of the church. He never once smiled, laughed, nor even cried. He took part in every aspect of the church, though he never attempted to speak with its chosen god during the nightly prayers as the others did. Instead, he picked a different one each night, silently reaching out to them and waiting for just one to answer. Then one night, still early into his teenaged years, something reached out for him first. It whispered in his ears, quiet and oh-so-alluring. It gave him its name and as it slipped from his own lips, something long forgotten was granted entrance back into the world.
