When she escapes the refuge where she was living,(being held captive, more like) she becomes a Newsie. She pretends to be a boy, so that they will accept her. She keeps telling herself to stay strong, and not develop feelings for any of these boys; not friendship, and definitely not love. But when the price rises for the papers, Blink and Brooklyn will not stand for it. With the help of newsie groups all across New York, Brooklyn and Blink lead the strike that creates a blockade all the way across Brooklyn Bridge and is the headline of many papers. Being the only girl newsie besides one, Spritz, Brooklyn goes from being a shy girl who barely spoke a full sentence, to a strong and brave leader standing up for what she feels is her right. Brooklyn soon learns that it's not a bad life, carrying the banner, as long as you have your friends by your side.

In the original movie and musical, Crutchie is taken to the refuge and isn't seen much until the end. Yes, this is another one of those stories. He's taken to the refuge, meets a girl, blah blah blah most predictable plot ever. I'll try to make it interesting.

Thorn is the only female Newsie and loving it. Thorn is a pretty 15 year old girl with a past she'd rather not talk about. She loves nothing more than selling papes for a penny each. Sure, life has its ups and downs but she's never been happier. But when her pretty little world gets a hit, can it stand much longer? Note: This is fanfiction I own nothing except for Rose.
