Everything happened so quickly. One day, I was eating pizza with my best friends, the next, there's a sudden epidemic. Every channel on the television, every station on the radio was talking about how dead bodies in morgues and hospitals were coming back to life. Scholars were trying to explain what was happening, but everyone knew they didn't know. The government sent out military forces, but they quickly died by the feasters. One bite was almost like instant death. Once you were bitten, you closed your eyes, died, but then came back to life. You were just like them until someone put you out of your misery by brain damage. The funny thing about it all was that all of this was happening in only one state, New York. The rest of the United States, and the rest of the world was fine. No one understood what was happening at the time. Now, it's been five years. There's no power. Everyone dear to me was either permanently dead, or a feaster. I was all alone, with nothing to my name but a couple bottles of water, and a bloody hammer.

Her voice was delicate like a caress almost making me close my eyes and wish for her to talk infinitely because I knew I could never grow tired of her voice. As we looked up at the night sky, the sounds of waves crashing and drunken laughter surrounded us, I couldn't help but feel like I finally belonged somewhere. I belonged laying just next to her listening to her beautiful laughter and her voice that spoke of many stories either involving the shenanigans we've done in the past or her college friends had done. I mulled over what my three fears could be yet couldn't help but feel the fear skimming along my spine as one fear stood out the most. One fear that may bring this friendship into a rocky edge. Just that thought made me close up; guarding myself from the world. "I'm afraid of spiders, heights, and..." Losing you, I thought to myself as I turned to look at her to meet those brown eyes that had brought me to my knees millions of times already staring back at me. I pulled the door to the shop open and stopped for a moment to let an old woman out before walking in. It smelled amazing in this place, like a warm fresh baked donut and coffee. It wasn't blood, but it would help with the heat outside, for sure. I looked around all the people in the place before walking over to the line. I stood for about 5 minutes before my turn came. I looked up at the menu, digging in my pocket for my money. "What can I get you?" The honey sweet voice of the cashier in front of me said. Her voice was so lovely and I felt like I could listen to it all day. "Can I get a, um.." I looked down from the menu to see her face and it felt like my non-beating heart stopped, again. Beautiful. "A d-date with you?"
