The first short story

Maybe I'm insane, but aren't we all a bit. Here's a look inside my crazy mind. My hopes, my fears, my problems all out there for you to see. It's not all pretty and it's not all nice, but it's the truth. I won't blame society for these things, because in reality... we are society. I've come to realize that just maybe, were all meant to be a little insane.

He lit his cigarette, I lit nothing. He drank alcohol, I drank water. He smirked, I smiled. He didn't love me, I didn't love him. He and I together wouldn't last a day. And then the game started... He said he found me intriguing, unique, and interesting because I didn't swoon over him. "You and me Grey, let's play a game. We'll date and in three months time I promise you will fall for me. When you fall in love with me between that time span, I win. If in any way you were to win I'll give up all the alcohol, cigarettes, and player ways." It was a game I wasn't willing to lose, but all games had accidents and consequences. It takes a broken heart to know how to break a heart.

Clara’s summer plans of getting her driver’s license and lounging by the pool are instantly shattered when her mother and father are offered the opportunity to study a rare butterfly in the Amazon Rainforest. When Clara and her younger brother Liam are unceremoniously dropped off at their grandparent’s technology-free farmhouse in the middle of nowhere, things quickly go from bad to worse. In addition to coming down with a terrible case of the flu, Clara begins to hear strange unexplained sounds at night, she is locked into her bedroom every night, and her brother is given strict rules about where he can explore on his grandparent’s expansive property. Clara’s concern turns to pure terror when she and Liam find their grandfather reading the morning paper at the dining room table, covered in blood with a long kitchen knife in one hand. Petrified, Clara and Liam burst past their grandfather and race into the forbidden woods surrounding the farmhouse. Are things as they appear? Is their grandfather a murderer? Will Clara and Liam find their way to safety?
