The future, 2400, is not the technology abundant world we imagined it. Flying cars and artificially intelligent robots aren’t given a second thought when you have to use every brain cell for survival. In 2409, Crimson Fog, one of the largest, strongest gangs, had some trouble with a group who believed themselves to be ‘gang resistance’. A small group of idiots who wanted the old ways back. After a few deaths and plenty of beatings, they surrendered. Two orphans were left with Crimson. The Crimson Orphan, Jax, sixteen in 2423, was raised to become one of the world’s best gunslingers. One of her greatest challenges was high school.

"I don't expect you to be perfect. Trust, for both of us, won't come out of nowhere. There's only one thing I will not tolerate and that is dishonesty. If you lie to me, Darcy, you can be sure that there will be severe consequences." Darcy was always that girl at the edge of the crowd. The one you hardly notice. She likes it that way. She has friends, a few close ones, but is unable to let them in completely. She's more vulnerable than she appears and is protecting her vulnerability by hiding behind sarcasm and easy smiles. But when her love life suddenly gets a boost she finds she has to choose between staying in her comfort zone or being constantly kept on her toes. Between steady and stable, or a man who gives her a new meaning towards the word "safe".

Although this is labelled as sci-fi, I wouldn't call it a sci-fi novel. Yes, it is set in the future. Yes, an integral part of the story is technology. However, I have tried to write my story so that anyone would enjoy reading it. The main focous is the characters, and how they interact with each other. So try not to be put off by the sci-fi label, and enjoy! Anyway here is a brief introduction to my story... Our world is ever increasing in connectivity. We can instant message people at the other side of the world. We can have a video chat from England to Australia, from USA to Japan. Wherever we travel, our emails, our phones, our facebook accounts know where we are. Technology is becoming more and more convenient. Sometime in our future comes a point where the technology of the world is so connected, so intergrated, the mundane tasks of day to day life will be completed for us. Our road, rail, and air networks will be controlled by Artificial Intelligence. Our Home Computers will know when the carpet needs vacuuming. Our Cars will safely take us places without us driving. When the World Technology System has replaced all the useful things that humans do, humans will no longer be needed. Machines rise up and attempt to rid the earth of the ineffecient and wasteful humans only to be thwarted by their creators, but destroying the Earth in the process. The grand cities that were built have been deserted. Organised humanity has broken down into small clans. It is in one of these clans, Tanika, that our heroine resides. Only a teenager, the fate of mankind rests on her shoulders. Can she get past her own fears and trials? Can she save the planet without losing herself? Can she co-operate with an AI, the very type of machine that destroyed her home? Only time will tell...
