War breaks out, and Chicago is heavily involved. Tobias must balance leading a city, commanding an army, and getting his wife back. Tris faces many obstacles and hazards along the way as well, but she pushes through, determined to find her way back to him.

After Allegiant Everyone thinks Tris is dead, but that's because that's what she wants them to think. In reality she had to take drastic chances to save the people she loved, even if it means getting hurt in the process. You know what they say, desperate times call for desperate measures. With Tris gone Tobias feels like he's falling apart, especially when they go back to Chicago and the factions are put back into place. Everyone keeps telling him it'll be alright, but with Tris gone how can it be? He feels broken and has to do the only thing he knows how to do: put up walls. If nobody can get in nobody can hurt him again. This is the prequel to Starting Over so if you read it first you won't miss anything but there may be a few spoilers.
