During an expedition, Armin and Jean are left in a group by them selves in the right flank. No one has seen a titan within miles, until, that is, Armin sees a one meter class titan hiding in a cluster of trees and bush that Jean is about to pass. It was an abnormal, the unpleasant sights they were. Armin wasn't able to shout to Jean in time before the titan grabs Jean and nearly eats him when Armin swings in. With Jean injured, and no horse coming back, they are left in the middle of nowhere with only their flares to help them.
