Troye Sivan has seen too much for a 17 year old boy who finds himself in another foster home, and he's become absolutely unwilling to try to claim any of the house or family as his own. He's doing everything in his power to leave again soon. Besides, his real family is broken, and his true childhood home has been deemed a crime scene. Troye has nothing to lose. Connor Franta has a world full of secrets ranging from his sexuality, relationship abuse, still being caught up on the tragic death of his best friend, and much more. All of this is hidden under lock and key from his divorced parents, and he doesn't want to find out what would happen if his secrets let loose. Connor is holding on to the shreds of what remains from the life he has, and he's got everything to lose.

Troye is a blood-thirsty vampire and meets Connor, a mere mortal who just wants to have a little bit of fun. However, as Troye becomes practically obsessed with the other man, it occurs to him that their casual hook-up might have been anything but that: casual.

Connor has always had a problem with fawning after straight guys, but this time it's different. Troye is a "straight" jock on the football team and Connor is the gay kid who everyone seems to avoid. There's someone in this world for everyone but they would never expect to be for each other.

Everything he has ever done has been planned by himself since he was a little boy, and his life seems to be going exactly the way he wanted it to go. He was a top student, the best swimmer on his team, and he was on his way to the greatest law school in California. But maybe that wasn't what he wanted anymore. So right in the middle of his path, something happens that changes his entire perspective on things. The girl he was with no longer seems like the person he fell in love with, the school he thought he needed to get into no longer fits what he wants, and the boy he stumbled into becomes more than just another friend. But the odds aren't always in everyone's favor. So when Nicola Franta, Connor's beloved sister, gets randomly picked to be District 8's tribute in the 73th Hunger Games, what could Connor do but step up to take her place? And to make things worse, Connor's partner is the infamous Troye Mellet: A mysterious, alluring boy with a vicious instinct to kill. But he didn't matter to Connor, right? Connor had enough problems, after all, such as surviving. But Connor never knew that Troye would become his biggest problem. Troye Mellet was out to destroy him. In more ways than one.
