Maar als het zover is, en hij vindt Selena, lukt het hem niet om haar uit de handen van de stropers te bevrijden, die haar gevangen houden. Maar samen met de hulp van zijn vader lukt het ze om Selena te bevrijden uit de handen van de stropers, maar daardoor ruiken de vijanden van zijn vader wel de kans om toe te slaan. Ze proberen Atka en Mark gevangen te nemen, maar ze hebben buiten de buitengewone krachten van zijn Atka's vader Mark gerekend. Daardoor beseft Atka pas, wat hij nog allemaal moet leren, als toekomstige Maanprins. En dat blijkt toch een lastigere opgave, dan hij dacht. Met een haperende ademhaling druk ik de slapende Hope dichter tegen mijn hard op en neer gaande borst.'Asjeblieft blijf slapen' mompel ik. Met trillende handen duw ik mezelf verder het bosje in. 'Stil eens' hoor ik een andere, minder zware stem. 'Hoorde jullie dat ?' Even is het dood stil tot een derde stem de stilte verbreekt. 'Ik hoor niks hoor.' Ik hoor wat gezucht en dan voetstappen steeds verder weg gaan. Opgelucht zucht ik.
