It's Thomas's first day as a runner and his first task is to explore the maze with a partner, Newt. But as soon as Thomas and Newt start exploring the maze, dreadful things happen that puts both Thomas and Newt's lives as risk. But what happens after the maze could change everything.

Thomas enters the glade with no knowledge of anything to do with his past. He meets a boy called Newt, the only glader he grows to like, and he realises that Newt is all he has in this strange new world. But what if this boy, Newt, has a darker past then Thomas thought?
