Friendships ended, job opportunities didn't pan out, relationships came to a halt. This was your life, 20, unemployed, with just enough money to start anew. Why did you decide to move? A change of scenery. But why Cincinnati, OH? It just felt right... Or was it because of him? Markiplier. As you continue your life in a new direction, the doors in front and behind you open, your past creeping ever closer to resurfacing. What would you do if your were a step away from the door that held something you wanted so much just behind it? What would you be willing to go through to save not only yourself, but someone you hold dear? At what risks? And at what cost? This is my first fanfiction, so excuse the way I write. Since this is xReader, I tried to stay away from special features to make the read more enjoyable for all. I welcome any constructive criticism! Best regards. BellemueCat93

"Where the senses fail us, reason must step in"- Galileo Galilei "I can't get away from it now, I'm trapped," I said, pausing for a moment to carefully pick out my words. "And... I... I don't think I want to escape." The psychologist took a moment of silence, shifting his glance from you to the paper on his desk. He lightly took a breath, as to not dishearten me, but I knew. "Alex," he returned his gaze to me, "are you sure? You are an independent woman, and... even though your mother and I are very worried for you, you are entitled to do as you wish." He paused, folding his hands in front on him on the desk, "But as soon as things turn... sour, we can not continue this." "I understand," I say with as much seriousness as I can muster. I stand and grab my bag, heading for the door. "Same time next week?" He asks, shifting in his chair behind me. "Yeah," I say, twisting the doorknob and facing him, "and... thank you, for worrying about me, cousin."

Jake Gallagher has always lead a particularly average life outside of the antics of his unconventional family. Average grades, average friends, and the average teenager's aversion to familial embarrassment, until his life takes a turn for the unexpected. Because sitting three rows and catercorner from Jake in his astronomy class is Skylar Glass. The insightful, attractive, interesting, starry-eyed juvenile delinquent, whose existence exceeds average in Jake's opinion. Skylar introduces Jake to the other side of life, gives him a new reason to look at the sky, and leaves a trail of stardust that prevents Jake's existence from ever being average again. "She had this thought. Not about choking hazards on children's toys or fatal car crashes, but a thought about how Skylar was not entirely a person. He was more like an ocean with violent currents; one of the seven seas with skin and bones and teeth. He was waterlogged with despair; bad weather with the premonition of a hurricane. And she thought that she finally understood why they named hurricanes after humans. But she lived in Arizona all of her life; she had never seen a hurricane, and she found that fitting because she had never seen anything like him either." He was as tragic as a hurricane. She was as volatile as a tornado. But when Skylar and Scout collided, they were bound for the sun. NOTE: Art for book cover by Budi Kwan.
