Lucy, the first born of the noble and notably rich Trevana family, had it all; fine clothes, wealth, and even her own bodyguard... at least until her title was stripped of her. Being dubbed unfit of the family name due to her irresponsible lifestyle, her father, Fereydoun Trevana, declared that she must depart from their home and forsake the family name until such a time as she proved herself worthy. Left with nothing but a small sum of money, which she squanders in less than a week, and her best friend and body guard Rodney Marcel, Lucy must now learn to put an end to her riotous, albeit innocent, living while Marcel desperately fights to keep her away from speakeasies in the Callistan prohibition. As Lucy makes her way, she meets different people, each one changing her slightly for the better or worse, who drag her into the affairs of their lives and eventually get her and Marcel mixed up in political, economical, and religious disaster which threatens the safety of the whole solar system. Set in a futuristic version of our world in which the planets have been terreformed, For Want of a Name begins on Callisto in the city Galilea, but a sudden turn of events eventually brings them to the planet where life began and still thrives as the central power of the solar system, Earth.
