Hannah Walters has always tried to blend into the background. She never had any desire to stand out or to be special. Ever since her mother died during her birth, Hannah's dad has been relieving his grief through drinking, and leaving Hannah to deal with the consequences. She has become used to the bruises, and has figured out his daily schedule in order to avoid him. But all that changes when a new boy, Ethan Crowe, moves into town. He takes an interest in her, and with every conversation they have, he gets closer to her truth. As much as Hannah wants to like him, she can't let him find out her secret, or the consequences could be deadly.

"Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight." ~1 Peter 3:3-4 "Tu es belle, ma chère, tant à l'intérieur qu'à l'extérieur." Aislyn Palmin is surrounded by beautiful people. Her mother is the owner of a successful modeling agency, and she works for renowned designer, Pierre Darling. But despite being surrounded by beauty, Aislyn doesn't feel beautiful herself. Linc Kingsman is gorgeous and knows it. People love him because he seems perfect on the outside, but the secrets he's hiding make him feel ugly on the inside. Insecurities, imperfections, and inadequacies abound within these two individuals. What does it take to look past these things, and discover the true meaning of beauty? [Quote translated by CMBooks]

isabel, if there was a definition of perfect, you'd be it. it doesn't matter what you're doing or who you're with. everything about you is flawless. even your flaws are flawless. oliver told me today that i was beautiful. i didn't believe him. i think that sometimes people tell you things because they want you to be happy. it is like they feel so bad for you that they have to make things up for you to just not believe them. why do people do things like that? why do they lie? was he lying? i don't know. i don't know a lot of things.
