Five years after Tony's passing, Steve and the reader have settled into life as mentors to the new Avengers, a team made up of their own, now grown children and those of their original teammates. Their five-year-old granddaughter keeps them busy as they prepare for Brooklyn's wedding, but things had been routine for almost too long, and one day a surprise visitor brings an offer that shakes their sense of calm in ways both good and bad.

It's ten years later, after Thanos destroyed their home and gave the team the reason to finally stop and disband the team. But now, their children are growing up and yearning to take their place. Between growing powers and the challenges of young adulthood, no one is sure who is suffering more; the kids or the parents.

Bucky may have been found and is being helped, but there were others with him. While regaining his own memories, he see's a specific girl fighting against him with HYDRA. She's fast, strong, and silent, just like him. He may not remember much, but he does know that he wants to save that girl from what the rest of HYDRA is doing to her. While they plan on how to get her to safety, they meet her outside in the streets. She's masked from the eyes down and she's ready to kill. After seeing and fighting her, Bucky remembers more about her than he thought there was to remember. He found that feelings sprouted inside the seemingly emotionless Winter Soldier, and maybe in the other soldier as well.

With her powers as a healer, the reader has been working with the Avengers since the fall of SHIELD, but her new role with the high-profile team has made her into an easy target for Hydra. When Nick takes the action to fake her death and remove from the team for her own safety, the plan is thwarted when Tony learns the truth, and when the events of Civil War begin to take place, the reader is thrown back into the life she left behind.
