After being adopted, Clove moves into a new house and meets her neighbour, Cato. They instantly become friends and start building a relationship that nearly turns into something more than friends. My heartbeat starts ringing through my ears when our lips touch for the first time but only lightly. “I have to go.” Clove says while taking a big gulp in and pulling away. “Why?” I say in disappointment. “I just have to.” She says almost in a whisper. Clove swings her bag over her shoulder and takes off in lightning speed. I stand up and start walking slowly back to my house. My thoughts flooded with a billion unanswered questions. You idiot! You tried to kiss your best friend who’s three years younger than you! I had to apologize. Clove never knew her parents. All she knows is her trainer Favian who sometimes doubles as her dad, and sometimes falls far short of looking out for her. In district 2 they train you not to be heartless, but to ignore your heart. After years of solitude with Favian her only family Clove has mastered this skill almost as well as she's mastered knife throwing. When new training partners for the year are assigned the day after the 73rd reaping, a mistake is made. Clove ends up partnered in the wrong age category with next years best contender for the crown: Cato Hadley. Everyone is jealous but Clove has bigger problems to deal with than her annoying partner. She has a secret that she's kept hidden for years and only Cato can save her from herself.

Cato and Clove have always been rivals, always trying to best each other. But what happens when they win the Games and are forced to give the Capitol what they want: Love? Being forced into marriage with the guy you despise isn't always fun. This story is in Clove's point of view, and is rated PG-13 for mild (in my opinion) blood and gore...and it's the Hunger Games.
