This poem is a tribute to my grandfather Sergeant William Blackwood Jones and his youngest brother Percy who died in his arms in Jan. 1915 three months after the death of another brother Richard, killed in action, and it is based on a letter home to his close friend and neighbour, Jack Watkins, and also published in a book 'They Fought with Pride' by David Nicholas.

Of course I never gave any credence to those tales of alien abduction; well, not until this morning, that is. I'm a writer and experience has taught me some of my best ideas come whilst I'm asleep; consequently I relate my dream directly into my voice recorder immediately I awake. Sergeant Alex Spencer journeys to his home village of Catspey for the funeral of his mother. He is astounded to discover that three of his childhood friends have all died apparently accidentally within days of each other. At the graveside he meets another childhood friend and ex-fiance who believes that all four deaths are linked and she is next in line to be killed. A disbelieving Alex has only few days compassionate leave to discover if such a deadly threat truly exists and, if so, how to protect the only woman he has ever loved.
