Sekuel kedua dari trilogi Pendekar Rajawali yang melegenda. Latar belakang kisah novel ini terjadi pada masa keruntuhan dinasti Song (960-1279), pertengahan abad ke-13. Putra Yo Kang (tokoh antagonis dalam kisah sebelumnya Kisah Pendekar Pemanah Rajawali atau Legenda Pendekar Pemanah Rajawali) adalah seorang yatim piatu, yang dibesarkan oleh saudara angkat ayahnya, Kwee Ceng. Selain kejahatan ayahnya, leluhur Yo Ko adalah patriot dimasa lalu. Kakeknya Yo Tiat-sim (Yang Tiexin) adalah salah satu dari 108 pendekar bukit Liang (Liang Shan), yang juga merupakan keturunan langsung keluarga Jendral Yo Cai-hin, yang menumpahkan darah membela dinasti Song selama lima keturunan.
