He lost it. His hope, his drive, his reason to live. He was destroyed by the words of his so-called idol. Being a hero was all Izuku Midoriya really wanted in life. There Mercer told him he was Izuku's past self and he is willing to merge their souls to give the Blacklight Virus to our protagonist and letting it mutate into a quirk.
