Date Hajime, a 17 year old archaeologist-in-training, has discovered that his father is missing while out on an expedition, and sets out to find him inside a temple his father was last seen in. By accident, he discovers an old artifact that somehow took him back to the late 17th century of Kanto history, in the feudal state before Kanto was even discovered. While on a quest to find his father, he assists the Kasai kingdom during the wars using his tactics, cunning and experiences, but it was more than what he bargained for when he meets Gasai Rin, a dirty-mouthed, blood-thirsty female warrior who is assigned to be his bodyguard. The path ahead has obstacles, betrayals and mysteries for him, and no strategy nor experience can help him now, and fate decides to test him with hard trials, heartbreak, and fragile trust. Will he find his father? Will he pass the test? And will his name be wrote down in history? Meanwhile, in the shadows, Team Plasma reorganizes, gaining strength under corrupt Sages and officers and led by Ghetsis. The team preaches a new direction, but the same motives added to a more "direct" and violent approach. It searches for objects it's lost and powerful members who've fled; all the while planning a destructive and unstoppable endgame, eventually crossing paths with Riley. The new trainer sees Team Plasma's vile actions and builds up a hatred for it, becoming determined to stop them whenever they meet while continuing THE JOURNEY OF A CHAMPION.
