Durante a primeira Guerra mundial um Bombardeio destroe a cidade de Londres forçado deversas criança a Buscarem abrigo em cidades menores da Inglaterra .Edward (é uma destas criançasu traumatisadas ,que caba de perder os pais e não pronunsiava uma palavra sequer. Ele é acolhido pela governanta jean e pela professora Eve na mançao do pântano. Abrigo está caindo aos pedaços. Mas serve como refúgio ao pequeno grupo.
