The world is a much bitter place when everyone must see the colours a little paler, a little distorted. Sure, technology has been developed to be able to see things better but it can severely mess up your mind. Solution to this? Find your soulmate. When you see the person who holds the other half of your soul, suddenly everything gets clear. A random factor about soulmates, regardless of knowing who it is or not, is that one can feel intense emotion of another, including pain as if it's their own; the part that holds the other's soul makes it seem personal. Since the soulmate situation is complicated, many times, people would choose to be with whoever makes them feel the way they want to rather than go after the unknown of a soulmate. Unfortunately, the only way one can detect the soul connection, has to be done in person, when they look in each other's eyes intensely and closely. Although it is mentioned that someone has the half of your soul in some book in some religion, there is no clear mention that their half of the soul will be in you as well. Through their personal issues of trust, respect, friendship and love, will they be able to achieve what they need to?
