We have been on the run for days now. The safety of my children is my priority. I was betrayed in the worst way, and I could not watch him hurt us any longer. I never saw my life going this way but here I am running for my life and my children's. This was the last bus stop, and I had a choice to make. I hope that I would not make the wrong one. He could find us at any moment and I imagine him dragging me all the way back by my hair. I didn't know who to trust but sometimes you just have to take a leap. Maybe, with a little luck, I will find the one thing I have been missing and be saved. One could dream, but for now, I'll keep running.

I'm not a victim. I'm the villain. The bad guy that killed millions. Controlled and manipulated thousands. I stained my own hands with blood of innocents. I may have become one of Morgiana's puppets... but that doesn't give me a pass. Even if she says I've changed. *** Everyone keeps saying he deserves a second chance. Little do they know, the darkness still has ahold of him. Maybe Cressa-la has forgiven him for what he's done. Maybe Dametria even did before she saved him. But Damian... Damian can't forgive himself. The woman he loves is pregnant with his best friend's child. There's no way he's ever want to get between them again, to betray their trust. But there isn't a soul in this world Damian wants or connects with. He was supposed to be with her. After all... they match. She just doesn't know it. The eclipse brought them closest to one another when they couldn't have been further apart. But now that he has a second chance, sprung back to a time right before he fell so far he couldn't see the light... Can he truly change for the better? *** "Hey," I say, very, very close to her ear. She stiffens at the sound of my voice, the smells of salt water and the beach rolling off her in the wind. "If you act suspicious you'll draw attention to yourself. Relax." And then I do something I didn't mean to do. Something I've only done a few times, each one taking the both of us off-guard. I pressed my lips against her cheek. *** Books in series order: 1. Book 3 of Beneath the Waves Being left alone for days on end was never something Fri looked forward to. After having just gotten back his one true friend in the world, he thought things might begin to look up. True, he was no longer a captive of sadistic humans and he didn't feel nearly as sick as he had, yet, for some reason, he still couldn't move or swim well. The medicine the human doctor had given him had helped for a short time, but now Fri was stuck on an island, completely dependent on Hice to bring him food, though the mer never stayed after delivering his catch. Determined to find his own remedy, and also the doctor who had helped him in the beginning, Fri decides to try and find him again. He knew that Hice wouldn't like him disappearing, and he might not even make it very far before his body gave out, but he was determined to put his worries behind him and push forward to try and help himself. Being a mer living among humans was something Callem and his brother were finally beginning to get used to. They dressed in clothing, most of the time. They ate without making a mess, sometimes. And they loved their humans, or in Mellac's case, their human's bodies. But when Fri turns up out of the blue, and new, mysterious hunters appear close behind, things begin to spiral out of control, fast.

This time around the story concentrates on Fin and Victoria and their ill-fated mate pairing. Unaware of Fin, Victoria suffering under a father who hates her very existence and starved of affection, Victoria has a dalliance with another male and Fin discovers this. The male in question was his twin brother Grey. This led to Fin abandoning his pack, rejecting Victoria and embarking on a path designed to punish her by sleeping carelessly with as many females as possible. Events in Grey's Tribute have brought them together, and Fin claims Victoria as his mate while still hating the very essence of her being. However, the Moon will have her way, and she wants these two together whether they will it or not. Victoria is forced to confront every demon she buried deep down in her fight for survival since birth. The main one being that her wolf is more feral than others, unwilling to bend to any and with a hunger to rule more territory. Her wolf's disrespect to his authority will force Fin to remind her of her place. Fin himself struggles with the past Victoria shares with his twin and the fact that it forced him to denounce his full potential as the most dominant alpha of the four packs around. Her wolf's challenge to his status will push Fin into accepting all that he is and could be, and in turn what they can be together. Unfortunately, his feelings for her are harder to change, and his struggle to forgive and forget will impact heavily upon their relationship. An emerging empire, omens of death and the two most dominant wolves compelled by fate to be together with or without their permission leads to an absolute rollercoaster of a story. I did not think I could feel more than I did reading this book. These characters are complicated and while they project an image of indestructibility to those in their world, reading this will show you that those who appear strong may have the hardest battle against their own weaknesses. Thank you @Chortle for the great summary.
