Thirteen years ago, the continent of Elaria changed forever. Thirteen years ago, the crown prince of the kingdom of Requiea took the life of his mother - the queen - and his uncle using untamed magical abilities, leaving his father with no choice but to take action. Magic of any kind was banned and his son was executed according to Requiean law. Present day, nothing has changed. The practice of sorcery is still outlawed - punishable by death - and the king has yet to remarry or birth a new heir. Joel Piers - alongside his best friend Godwin - is a soldier, a guard, and he has been for almost two years - just as the law of the land commands. Through that time, he has earned respect within the ranks and among the common-folk. To him, his purpose is crystal clear. Serve the king and destroy magic and any traces of it within the borders of Requiea. However, when a sudden and all-to-familiar influence strikes in the center of the capital city, it brings Piers's seemed destiny and purpose crashing down to the ground. Now, he must come to terms with the fact that perhaps he's been defending and fighting for a lie - and nothing more.
