Every time Ace Merrill was arrested he expected the usual, drunken men in the cells around him, moaning and groaning about how they'd been unfairly locked up. Yet this time was different. Ace got the shock of his life when he looked into the cell opposite and saw a girl his age, bruises littering her body and a glare that could kill. For once in his life Ace suddenly found being locked up might be one of the best things to happen to him.

The only thing is she was a very young child which means they now have to raise her as their own which they actually think is better. He suffered in silence, not even able to hide behind his frowny faced mask, his only true respite gone and in some filing cabinet as 'evidence'. But then she showed up. She was his psychologist; he was under her care. She stepped in, protecting him from the abuse he endured, stopping others from kicking him when he was down. And he knew just how he was going to repay her kindness.
