Twelve years ago, Dax, rightful king of West Landly was forced to flee into exile. Now he has become an expert warrior for hire. However, he has tired of commanding mercenaries in a series of regional skirmishes. Commandant Renshau had just the thing, an assignment as a political advisor. Dax relished the new challenge, but being a political advisor was more dangerous than he had thought-much more dangerous! From the book: Dragons at war... The rest was a confusion of impressions. The dust lit up with a blazing reddish-yellow glow followed by a monstrous roar. A wave of heat swept over them. They continued to ride for a few moments, but they encountered a drift of overthrown horses and riders. Captain Baffen signaled a halt. Once the drumbeat of their horses hooves were silent, he heard a cacophony of shrieks and screams from all around. Another great gout of fire swept towards them, and the roar drowned out the heart-rending cries for help. This time they saw the fire as it swept towards them. They were in a shallow depression below the level of the rest of the plain, and the searing heat from the inferno swept just over their heads like a beacon from left to right. They started forward again, but a great wind followed the fire. It swept the dust away as they came onto level ground. That was when they saw the dragon.

Ashlyn stood there, staring at her surroundings curiously, wondering at the sudden wind that seemed to have no effect on her. It would stop, only to come back a few seconds later. Suddenly this 'wind' picked up speed and out of the sky dropped a dragon. "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Ashlyn screamed. Before her stood a magnificently beautiful, yet terrifying, dragon. He was black as night, with a thick whit scar running up his forearm. His large, soft looking wings were tucked to his sides for better mobility when on the ground. And don't get me started on the terrifying looking spikes running along his back, or the large white claws on his feet. It didn't help that he seemed to be almost as tall as a six story house. Strangely enough though, when the dragon turned to look at her, Ashlyn was not afraid. She felt more of a sense of pride when his large head nudged her naked waist. That was, until his tongue traced an odd pattern on her side. It felt like fire was crawling up her skin, and she started screaming, dropping to her knees in pure pain. The dragon stepped back, and a few minutes later when she looked up, in his place there stood a man. He stepped into the moon light and-

The time of Queen Arabelle and her companions has long since passed, and a new adventure has begun in this mythical world of dragons and heroes. Casimir Ivanov was born in a country, across the sea from Queen Arabelle's country, known as Altair. He is a master swordsman and an excellent smart mouth, but he lacks one very important trait that he is mocked for. Dragon rider blood. After running away from home to avoid being insulted further, Casimir finds himself meeting up with two Tionian siblings: Leopold Colburn, a renowned swordsman in Tiona and a future dragon rider, and Adaline Colburn, Leopold's younger sister and the rider of a water dragon. Leopold tells Casimir about an event known as the Dragon Tournament, a game designed to test if you are worthy enough of riding a dragon. When a mix up at the games occur, Casimir finds himself thrown into the games in Leopold's place and competing to prove himself worthy of riding a storm dragon, one of the most feared dragons out of all. Yet his fate is twisted before his eyes as he finds himself journeying with a group of unlikely allies in order to put a stop to the unrest unfolding in Tiona, a country that isn't his own but one that felt more like home than his did. It will take more courage than Casimir ever knew he had if he plans on surviving long enough to return home safely. ---------- © Isabella Espe 2014 - 2019 This is a work of fiction.
